Conference season is once again upon us, and this year I’ve got a few different places on my schedule. However, no place is as special as the Designer Developer Workflow Conference (D2WC) in Kansas City, Mo. D2W is my favorite conference because it brings together all of my favorite people and favorite topics. For those who don’t know, this conference is all about workflow. That means you’re going to get a ton of info on how to work more efficiently in your daily designer or developer routine.

My First Series for Lynda.com
Well, the day has finally come when I can announce my first series with Lynda.com! Yep, that’s right as of this morning my first series entitled “Creating and Managing a Blog Network with WordPress” is now LIVE in the Lynda.com Online Training Library. Whew, does it feel good to finally say that out loud!
This course is 3+ hours of instruction on how to create, install, and manage a WordPress Multisite installation, so if you’ve ever been curious about Multisite or if you’re just looking to brush up on your skills, feel free to check it out! I’m very proud of this class and hope that you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed developing and recording it. As I said, this is my first course with Lynda.com, but hopefully not my last.
My CreativeLIVE Experience
This week I’ve been in Seattle teaching a couple of workshops for CreativeLIVE.com. If you’ve never seen a CreativeLIVE class before, you should really check it out! Basically they produce live online classes on a variety of different subjects (photography, design, development, etc.) and they broadcast it via Ustream around the world.
I was somewhat nervous on the first day, simply because I have taught classes both online and in person, but I’ve never really done them simultaneously. Oddly enough, I loved it! The combination of interaction between a live in-studio audience and a worldwide online classroom is exactly what this instructor needed. Doing a class live like this keeps you honest and really allows the audience to drive the tone and conversation of the course. There’s also an element of realism that you get as instructor in a live environment versus a recording booth. I’m never happier than when I’m in the booth, don’t get me wrong… But (and my wife will tell you this) when I’m in the booth I put on my “instructor voice” and seem to lean more towards a polished and/or professional approach. During this live workshop however, many people (wife included) said that it was like I was being human again. I guess the interaction from the audience and seeing an actual face in front of me instead of a microphone really has a profound effect on a guy… Who knew?!?
Where I’m Going, Where I’ve Been, Etc.
As many of you know, this year has been a year of change for me… I’ve lost over 200lbs, I got married to the most awesome woman on the planet, and I took a new job in Oklahoma City. Well, the winds of change continue to blow in my life as I find myself once again moving on and back home to KY. I made the decision to leave iThemes at the beginning of November. Yes, my time there was short, but it was an amazing experience and I made (hopefully) some life-long friends. Opportunities have arisen for me in the recent months that I simply could not pass up and consequently made me choose between them and my position at iThemes. There were many other factors that contributed to my decision, though I won’t go into them here, and so I opted to do what was best (long term) for me and my family.
