Throughout this past year I’ve overcome some serious obstacles in my life, both personally and professionally. I’ve conquered more demons in the last 12 months than most people tackle in an entire lifetime. My journey this past year has brought me to a realization about what makes me different from other people. I’m not the type of person that enjoys hearing the word no… In fact, I hate it. Every time someone has told me that I couldn’t do something or that something was out of my reach, it has pushed me that much harder to do, whatever it was, that much more. I realize though that most people hear the phrase no, or “you can’t” and simply accept it as fact… The question is, why?

Why It’s Ok to Fall Flat on Your Face…
Failure. Though it starts with the letter F, it should not be considered a bad word. Failing is a natural part of life that we should all go through. If we never failed, the joy of success wouldn’t taste as sweet, and we’d have no way to learn what we were doing wrong or how we could correct it. I’ll be the first to admit that I fail all the time… and I’m proud of it! Actually I’ve fallen flat on my face quite a bit, but I’ve used those face-plants as a tool for success rather than letting them bring me down.
Under Promise and Over Deliver
This blog post was inspired by some great advice that was given to me by Craig Swanson, founder of CreativeLIVE, during my recent trip to Seattle. As Craig and I sat down one day, we began to talk about my life and career and how I could improve it going forward. One of the things we both agreed on was that I am very quick to announce something but oftentimes slow on delivery (my recent declarations of upcoming books and DVDs come to mind). He stressed to me that moving forward, what I chose NOT to do would be equally as important as what I actually chose to do.
Mantra 2012: Evaluate, Plan, Attack.
As we move into a new year, I’m pausing to reflect on the last 365 days of my life and realizing that they’ve been pretty good. Not only did this year see me reach new heights professionally, but I’ve also conquered many personal demons and found my life partner along the way. This time of year can be a crazy time for a lot of folks… Most of you are out there right now making bullshit resolutions that you’ll half-heartedly stick to for a day or two and then slip right back into your old ways. This year, I encourage you to buck that trend. Make 2012 one for the record books. Hey, if all those prophets out there are correct, what’ve you got to lose, right?
