The Overpass

Today I went for a little walking adventure in Bricktown (a portion of Downtown OKC) and while I was down there I found myself underneath the interstate… At first I scrambled to get out of there because, let’s face it, it’s the interstate and I’m terrified of bridges like this. But once I realized the photographic potential in this area I decided to stick around.

This was a 9 exposure HDR image taken at F11. The shots were processed using Photomatix Pro and then finished off with Topaz Adjust 4 inside of Photoshop CS5.

Processing HDR Photos

As I continue to go further down the rabbit hole of HDR photography, there have been a lot of people asking me exactly how I process my images and what tools I use to produce them. In this video I walk you step-by-step through my workflow of processing an HDR image. Of course you do have to get the setup correct with you camera, but I’m assuming you know how to do that already. If not, here’s a quick little checklist:

Lake Hefner Lighthouse

1

After my morning at the Myriad Botanical Gardens in OKC, I wasn’t really happy with the day of shooting… The weather was awful (cold and cloudy) and most of my shots came out muddy and unusable. That afternoon I noticed a break in the clouds, and I immediately turned to my wife and set… Let’s go!

We drove out to Lake Hefner on the west side of Oklahoma City. It’s a man-made lake with a ton of nice scenery and ample room for walking or shooting photos. My goal was to capture the lighthouse as the sun set behind it… Personally I think I jumped the gun (mostly because 20 minutes later the sky was much more dramatic and pretty), but the shot turned out ok considering. This was a 9 exposure HDR image processed in Photomatix and Photoshop.

The Tube

Here’s another shot from my day at the Myriad Botanical Gardens in OKC. This one is of “The Tube” which is the centerpiece of the gardens. Unfortunately they don’t allow tripods inside, so I was forced to take this lone shot from just outside the structure. Of course this is an HDR image though, comprised of 9 exposures and processed in Photomatix and Photoshop.
